About the Artist

"As an artist, I merely plagiarize God 's work."

As a Contemporary Impressionist I paint mainly cityscape and landscape in oil. I enjoy painting picturesque subjects and destination spots that evoke fond memories and longings to warm the heart, encourage the soul, and bring a smile to the face.

I do not seek to render in photographic detail, but instead to create expressive, dynamic impressions so that the viewer can enter the scene personally, experiencing and completing it for themselves.

I agree with Aristotle’s statement, “The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.” I believe a true work of art is any piece that continues to bring the viewer joy every time they gaze upon it. And I believe the visual arts best serve humankind by joining nature in displaying the reality and beauty of our Creator (Romans 1:20).

I seek to paint light and color in response to what the human soul craves. It continues to fascinate me that heaven, eternity and God are always described in terms of light, color and “glory” (Revelation 21:9-27). Perhaps what really connects with the inner soul of the lover of art is that universal longing to see, if only “…in a mirror dimly…” (1 Corinthians 13:12), a reflection of the spiritual realm beyond this one?

Guy was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in Longview, Texas. Guy and his wife Jackie currently reside near Sugar Land, Texas. Together they have four children and nine grandchildren. Guy and Jackie love to travel, and many of his paintings are based upon locations and experiences they have enjoyed as they’ve journeyed.

Guy also enjoys golf, nature, theology, and teaching. Guy served for many years as a pastor and now serves as a professor at a local Bible college where he teaches Bible study and teaching skills. He holds an undergraduate degree in English and Advertising Art, and post graduate degrees in education and theology.
